Our first stop on our European vacation was Belfast, Northern Ireland. This is a gorgeous city that is still very much immersed in conflict. I never felt "unsafe" but the political tension is there, just about everywhere you turn. If you do not stay in the Cathedral Quarter you will be hard pressed to find late night eats. We were covering a lot of ground and with the time change and the sunset at 10:45 pm our body clocks were off in a huge way. It would get dark and we would think it's dinner time but it was really late! There is a lot of street art and political murals throughout the city and its outskirts. We stayed in an Airbnb on the river with views and walking distance to everything. We walked so much we were all sore by day 3.
The building to the right of the top photo is the apartment building we stayed in. I highly recommend it.
There were these Game Of Thrones stained glass murals all over the city.
I did a 23 and me DNA test and found a distant cousin who lives in Belfast. We had been corresponding and while I was there I was able to meet him in person! That was definitely one of the highlights of this trip. It was like we knew each other already.
Hope to get through more posts soon. We are in the midst of a huge life change (more later) and editing pictures has fallen on the back burner until things gets settled.
