2017 Goals
- Visit one Roadside Attraction/weird thing once a month - My love of all things weird and wonderful has blossomed into quite an obsession and my family has been very supportive of exploring new things alongside me so I am hoping to really step up this year.
- backcountry camp - We have had some awesome tent hammocks for a while and are yet to use them. I really want to hike along the Appalachian Trail and wake up swinging off the side of a mountain (or near one) in the not so distant future.
- Run a trail race- I have been trying to set a fitness goal every year. Running a trail race intimidates me to no end. I have been wanting to do a dual-athlon and work up to a mini-Triathlon but I really need to get comfortable doing a trail run before I can progress further.
- Raft the entire Ocoee - We have done the middle twice, this year we want to do the upper and middle in one trip. Total adrenaline rush
- Whitewater Kayak - I want to get in a real white water kayak and learn to maneuver over class 3+. I may not like it once I do it but it has been a dream since I was a teenager to run a real rapid in a kayak.
- Join the State Park Paddlers Club- 6 parks, 22 miles and I get a t-shirt
- Do a major Purge- My husband has been purging for a while but it is not going fast enough for me. He tends to only want to get rid of my stuff and hang on to junk that had value 20 years ago. This year I want to purge like I am moving. My anxiety level is really high when I feel like my life is cluttered. My house is tiny and I have very little storage so this year I want to get rid of a ton of stuff and invite in some breathing room.
- Learn to shoot & edit video- I have big plans for big adventures and I want to be able to save them and share them in dramatic ways.
- Shoot & develop film- I have a ton of film and a bin of darkroom supplies collecting dust. This is the year I will use some of my old cameras on new subjects.
- Kayak out of State- I have a couple of trips planned in my mind that include kayaking in 3 different states. If I can actually make just one happen I will be very happy.
- Do a creative portrait series- I have had a few ideas for a while and never made the time to bring anything to light. I am shifting gears this year to be way more creative and controlling over my subject matter and work.
- Exhibit art- I haven't exhibited in a few years because I have been so overwhelmed with working (that is a good thing) I am going to make a point to update my portfolio and participate in an exhibition this year.
- Teach the boys to cook one meal per week- I don't think it is a secret that I am not in love with cooking. Hoping to relieve more anxiety by having the boys cook one meal a week. One that is not frozen pizza or mac and cheese. These are skills men should have and it is incredibly sexy for men to cook. It is a skill I want my son to have and I want him to learn by example.
- Learn one new skill - Hopefully that new skill will be editing video but I am hoping that my new skillshare membership will teach me something else too.
- Participate in the Atlanta Moon Ride - I happened upon this night bike ride through the city by accident a few years back. I have been wanting to do it ever since and there is no better time than now.
- Be Kind - Sounds simple but isn't. I am going to be more mindful of how my actions and words effect those around me. Hold my tongue more often and celebrate the victories of those around me rather then compare myself and my life to them.
- Visit Cuba- This is a big one. I want to continue to leave the country each year. This trip is going to be a huge adventure and I hope actually happens. The last 2 months of 2016 threw me and my family some rather large curve balls.I had big plans for 2017 and bigger for 2018 but , life happens. I need to focus on family first and hope adventure can follow. Scaling back my grand plans in hopes I can focus on just one big trip.
- Drink More Water- Drink half my weight in ounces every day! This sounds easy but it is not!
