I had a cat for 6 days

My neighbors moved. They left her behind.

I found her crying on their doorstep so I called her over and she came running over, meowing non-stop. She was starving. I went inside and grabbed a bowl of dogfood and water and she chowed down. I posted on my neighborhood site (nextdoor) and facebook, trying to get the word out to anyone that might know where or how to get in touch with my old neighbors. That is when things got weird.

There was still a few things left at their house. A car pulled up and a couple was there loading stuff up and using the lawnmower to cut the yard. I walked over and got a very abrasive and shady greeting. Supposedly they were the new owners, but they were going to rent the property. Did not know anything about the cat but said they would call the old owners for us. They told us they did not know if the old owners were coming by to get the rest of their stuff, yet there was a motorcycle and they were using the old owners lawn mower and packing up the rest of their stuff?! The house NEVER went on the market, I checked.

Not sure why these people were lying to me.

I bought cat food and prepared to take the responsibility for this cat. She was really sweet and obviously out of sorts. She made a base camp in my bushes.

My daughter was her biggest fan. She really wanted to keep the cat. We would come outside and love on her every chance we got.

I did see the old owner late Sunday night picking up his motorcycle and leaving a car in the drive way? WTH is wrong with these people? Obviously this is why we never got to know them in the 3 years they lived there.

I did not confront him as by this point I was furious that they left this poor kitty for 6 days and was afraid of what I would say. I was also afraid of them just taking her to shut me up and dumping her somewhere else. It has been 2 days now and she hasn't been around. I can only assume he took her home. I hope so. I still have food out just in case and I am combing the animal shelter website in case she shows up there.

People who abuse or abandon animals are the worst kind of people.
