A Long Leg
I got on the water just in time to catch the last of the fog from the morning. I swear it burned off one minute after I snapped this on my iPhone.
Team river avengers embarked on leg #2 of the dam to dam paddle on the Chattahoochee. Well almost all of the team was ready to paddle. Our littlest member stayed behind with his friends. I was a little sad that he was going to miss out on the bragging rights of being 10 and paddling the entire length of the Hooch between the dams but after we were done I was glad he passed on this leg of the trip.
We put in at the McGinnis Ferry launch and took out at Gerrard Landing off of Holcomb Bridge in Roswell. It is a fairly new park. This was a very slow flowing part of the river. There was also only one notable shoals at Jones Bridge and that was really the only good place to pull off for lunch the entire 11.2 miles of the trip. We paddled the entire way. You can pull off at Roger's Bridge, there are bathrooms if you walk up the concrete stairs and a decent launch. The local tubing place uses this as their launch site.
You can see the tubers ahead. Just past this bridge on the left is the take out.
The river is really wide in spots but mostly the banks all look like this.
Jones Bridge is by far the best spot along this route.
We left the house at 8:15 am and came home at 8:15 pm, a little tired and a lot sunburned. Summer is coming to a fast close. Trying to get in as many warm weather activities as possible but I am looking forward to Fall and all my favorite things. I am so torn! At least we have wet suits :) Save Comments
