John Kozik is the owner of the world`s only Ouija board museum and started the talking board historical society.
I had a much used, much love Ouija board when I was a teen. I swear it worked. As I got older- and wiser- I began to realize it may have been a little too active. So much so that I gave it away at a white elephant Christmas party after refusing to let my own children touch it in my house - with a warning- Use at your own risk!
To be honest, I was really on the fence about even visiting the museum. I had read that the owner was always on premises and eager to talk to anyone who wanted to know more history and lore on the subject. There was no line to get in so we decided to pop inside. As I had heard, the owner was on site and eager to answer any questions we might have. I went on to tell him my story. He informed me that I correctly got rid of my Ouija Board by giving it to a willing participant. He regaled me with tales of how others have burned, cut up or buried unwanted boards only to find them pop up in tact shortly after they were discarded. I also learned that one of the most active boards he has is a Stranger Things Board that came to him with no return address that was made in 2017. A board does not need to be old to be "special". The museum houses quite the collection, with an additional 600 not even on display. Of the ones in the museum, only 4 were boards he had not acquired on his own. We were told of incidents involving visitors who came into contact with these witch boards. Two of them have caution tape across them, while one has a black lace shroud and bible on top of it to either protect or deter anyone from attempting to use it. He has not himself used these boards. I did not want to even step into the enclave where they were located but my husband was already in that room and pointing out a Scooby Doo board and photographs of Danzig and Samhain to which I could not see from where I stood. I decided to step cross the threshold to peak inside, careful not to get close to the 3 boards under glass. I felt a pressure in my chest and an off feeling. My husband, the skeptic, also felt off. We left shortly after.
Got any Ouija stories? I would love to hear them!
