Magnolia CemeteryWhen you enter the gates to Magnolia Cemetery in Augusta, Georgia, there is no question where the name comes from. Magnolia trees and their messy leaves litter the graves and walkways through out the graveyard.
I have also never seen children's graves with an actual child on top of them. There were so many.
"Magnolia Cemetery was established in c1817 and was originally known as the Augusta City Cemetery. The graves within this Cemetery tell a story, however, many will never be known to us. They are there, from the yellow fever epidemics in 1839 and 1854, to the great floods of 1888 and 1908, from old wars to new wars, good times and bad."~ Find-A-Grave
I am happy we stopped and had a look around this beautiful cemetery. Luckily my son enjoys these little excursions as well.
