I did a thing on a whim... Curling!
There is only one dedicated curling facility in the state of Georgia and they offer classes. After seeing some friends post about trying it on a birthday outing, I did further investigation. I reached out to my friend who never turns down an adventure and we signed up. Her husband even got excited and came along with us. I knew nothing about the sport going into this and I was surprised at how much fun it was. So much so that I want to do it again!
Next time I will wear much thicker socks. I wore 2 thin pairs. A hat and thicker under layer would be better as well. Other than that I have no complaints. I really didn't get that cold because curling has a surprising amount of cardio involved.
It seems that all 4 groups were having the time of their lives. So much laughter. We had a short game once we got the basics down. We were up but ended up losing. The team we played got incredibly competitive but not in a serious way. Sweeping is exhausting and they were much better at that part of the game than we were. I need to practice with my Swiffer before I take the 201 class.
We learned the "stones" are made from granite in one small area of Scotland and cost between $400-$500 each. The target in the middle is called the "button". The person who does all the yelling is the Skip. I got to be the Skip. Skips get to throw the last 2 stones. We did take turns doing everything. This would be an excellent team building exercise. Maybe I can talk my boss into it.
