East Pallisades

My long term exploring buddy sent me a text out of the blue and asked if I wanted to go explore something. I was planning on hiking locally with my dog but now with a friend in tow we decided to go knock a trail off my bucket list. The East Pallisades trail follows the Chattahoochee River just outside of Atlanta. There is a bamboo forest along the route but sadly we did not find it. The trail was super muddy from all the rain we have had and with the government shut down the area is not being maintained. The upside was it was free parking, the down side was I slipped in the mud.

The river was fast and high. The trail closest to the river was underwater in most spots and really slippery. I do not recommend this hike right now.

We completed the 3 mile loop, shoes and my pants covered in mud. Somehow the dog stayed pretty clean. The new gentle lead is a game changer. He doesn't pull at all. He doesn't like it but hopefully we won't need it long. I learned he doesn't mind dogs that are off leash but does not like encountering ones on a leash. Weird.

There are a few overlooks and boulders to climb on about halfway through the loop trail. There are 2 nice overlooks as well.

This dog loves to climb up and look over fences and banisters. He is so darn funny.

When...or if...it ever dries up I really want to come back and hike down the river to the bamboo forest. The trail is super tricky and easy to get turned around. There are a lot of finger trails off the main loop. There are plenty of maps but none that state where on the map you are at. We used the alltrails app and had no issues with getting around. Love that app!
