Anyone who has ever seen a picture of Savannah will recognize this gate and these trees.

When I ran the Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon in 2013 my medal even had this gate pictured on it.

Of all the countless times I had been to Savannah I had never actually been to Wormsloe (or Wormslow) Plantation before.

My nephew-in-law's brother lives about a mile away from here. He just had a baby and we were set to go visit and I could not pass up the opportunity to check this place out. I felt the museum and ruins were lacking for the steep price you have to pay to explore the grounds. My advice would be park at the very front by the gate, snap your pictures and leave. That is what most people were doing. Since I had never been here I wanted to explore the whole place and I had a certain portrait in mind that I wanted so I paid the $26 for the 4 of us to enter. I also suggest bring bug spray and maybe a face mask. I do not know what we got into but all 4 of us got sick. Baby Stella got an eye infection, my niece got a sinus infection, my son got a sinus infection, eye infection along with a decent fever and I felt like death the entire 5 hour drive home the next day coupled with fever. I was literally googling Zika Virus symptoms.

There was not much left of the ruins. The movie inside did a good job of showing and explaining the history of the site. It was also fun to dress little man up in colonial clothes. In true Savannah fashion, the bugs were out in full force, it was hot and humid and generally too miserable to explore much of the trails.

I suggest if you want to see gorgeous Live Oaks dripping with Spanish moss and interesting architecture and history go to Bonaventure Cemetery instead. It is free, pretty and less crowded. In short, I am glad I finally made it here, I probably won't ever go back but I did get maybe my favorite portrait ever so I am not complaining at all.

If I can't make it to the Christening, I had to at least make the most memorable Christening portrait ever! I may be a little bias but this little great niece of mine is just perfect!
