In North Georgia on Hwy 53 in Dawsonville just below a bridge lies a path along the Amicalola River that leads to the edge of the world.

So Dramatic!

When approaching this area by paddling it looks like the river just falls of the face of the Earth.

It does not.

It does lead to some hairy Class IV rapids though.

There is some excellent swimming holes, tubing spots and rocks to climb.

You need to have a pass to park and there is no where to buy a pass on site. I have a "every kid in a park free" pass that would work but if you come you need to be prepared to buy a pass here.

After posting about this on instagram I learned from friends it is a good idea to bring a trash bag with you (to pick up other peoples trash). We have a strict "leave no trace" Boy Scout rule in our house. We did not find it to be trashed at all when we came but some friends live nearby and come often and say it is a very popular spot. I also learned that not very far from where we were is Devil's Elbow. A place you can cliff jump, rope swing and there is even a handmade wooden ladder and platform for jumping. I will have to visit there next time.
