I get made fun of a lot for playing Pokemon Go.

I have a 10 year old and I think it is fun to look for them when we are out and about.

Cemeteries have a TON of Pokemon.

I happen to really like photographing old cemeteries. I have ever since I was in High School. I know it sounds odd to some. I had a very influential art teacher that took a handful of us to Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta one summer afternoon. That moment ( and teacher ) forever changed my life.

I am most drawn to the statues.

Cemeteries have a stigma of being sad or scary. I find them to be peaceful and beautiful.

This was is located in Gainesville, close to the lake. We stopped off after hiking nearby, which was cute short due to rain but managed to clear up in time to get some dramatic shots in and around the graves.

The dove appears in both Christian and Jewish cemeteries, representing some of the same things and some different things in each. Catholics usually see the dove as the Holy Spirit. Jews interpret the dove as a peace symbol. The biblical allusion to the dove also suggests a connectedness with the earth and its color, white, represents for Europeans, purity and spirituality.

This place was covered in very "Southern" names and symbols. I am what Southerners call a Damn Yankee ( a yankee that moved south ). It has taken many many years to chip away at my New York influence. I can now appreciate Southern culture and history for what it was and have mellowed on my obnoxious Northern ways.

One of my favorite mediums to shoot cemeteries with is infrared. Recently I bit the bullet and converted my first Nikon DSLR to IR only. Shooting IR with film is tricky, and digital IR is a tad more fun because of the color options but using an IR filter and a tripod and the whole focusing issue makes it really really hard. Now that I have a dedicated camera I can do it more readily.

 The lamb always stands for innocence, usually marks the grave of a child.
