The first half of the year I talked a lot about running and where I run.

Now it is brutally hot and I am enjoying my other addiction. Kayaking!

I have validation that it is addicting because not one, not two but 4 of my closest friends bought kayaks last week and each have been out twice since buying them! I am creating a kayak army!

We named our boats Sid and Nancy.

Sid is a Perception Swifty (and our friend Joe bought one just like him)

Nancy is a Pelican Maverick (and our other 3 friends bought this type but slightly different...Nancy Wins!)

Last Saturday we went river kakaying with our friend David. This is our second outing with David and we always have the best time. Shane and David both have fishing kayaks. We are yet to fish from them. We are not fishermen but that does not mean I am opposed to fishing. We have fished with our son a couple of times. He likes it so I think this will become a thing for us soon enough. I think if it was the end of the world and I had to hunt for food, fishing and foraging is the only way I could survive. If I had to slaughter my own meat I would for sure starve. I barely eat meat as it is and have a goal (not this year) to rescue some animals from my friends farm.

Settles Bridge is a really popular spot close to home. Lots of kids (including my daughter) come here to jump off this abandoned bridge.

That poor kid in the middle was up there for an hour before we finally took off down the river. I wonder if he ever jumped.

My little guy is really good in his yak. His favorite part is finding rocks like this to climb on and explore and throw more rocks into the water. I swear he could just sit on the bank and throw rocks for hours and never get tired of it.

This part of the river is calm with only a couple of tiny shoals that are much louder than they should be.

The water is also very clean, clear and cold!

We pulled over to snack, stretch our legs and cool off. None of us could get any deeper than our knees because the water is frigid. It was 95 degrees outside and very little clouds but all we had to do is stick one foot in and we were instantly cooled off.

I just LOVE this picture of Shane.

We spent a good 4 hours out here but this was really a short distance covered. David and I have the same goal. We want to paddle all of the sections between Buford Dam and Morgan Falls Dam. This was his first section and our second. I think next we will try between the Dam to Settles Bridge. I hear there is a nice class 2 at the Hwy 20 bridge. We have already done the other side of Morgan Falls Dam from Johnson Ferry to Paces Mill. This part gets a bad rap but honestly is the best part of the hooch I have found. Shane wants to do a nice long trip next time we all get together, hopefully that will be sooner rather than later.
