My running family is now complete. My son just completed his first 5k this past weekend. He has been in running club since 2nd grade. This year he will run in his 3rd Peachtree Junior 3k. If you are from Atlanta, then you know how we love the Peachtree road race. It is a July 4th tradition, a rite of passage and the worlds largest 10k. Well you have to be 13 to run it. Atlanta is not going to let the kids be left behind so they have the Peachtree Junior 2 months ahead of the big race, with almost as much hoopla. He has been training with his Dad, on top of running club practice. He was ready to take it to the next level. The color run is just a fun, non-timed event that I thought would be the perfect intro into the real world or running.

Here we are all clean and bright, ready to hit the starting line.

And now just after hitting the finish. My son stayed with my daughter the whole way, he never stopped and she even told me she had to keep up with him instead of him keeping up with her! Proud mom moment! They were the first of our group to cross the finish line.

Because they weren't colorful enough after the race!

I am so lucky to have friends, family and co-workers that enjoy getting together for these types of events. Yay fitness! If you have younger kids and just want to get outside and do something fun, healthy and different, or even if you, yourself are looking for a first time racing experience, the color run is your best bet. It is not competitive and is slower paced since it isn't timed. I think it gives first timers a positive outlook on running and racing.
