Lake Tahoe is one of the most pure bodies of water in the world with 99.994% of the water pure. Commercially distilled water is 99.998% pure.
The first beach we went to was our friends favorite spot, closest to their house, that they frequent. My husband I also did some hiking - and despite the length it was pretty treacherous - to Bonsai Rock.
Tahoe means “big water” in Washo, the native language of the Native Americans who first inhabited the area.
Lake Tahoe is so clear that in some places, objects can be seen in depths of over 70 feet.
We also went to Inspiration Point and Eagle Falls.
Fannette is the only island to be found in all of Lake Tahoe
he stone structure on top that looks like a miniature castle is the "Tea House". After being transported to the island by motorboat, Mrs. Knight and her guests would occasionally be served tea there. A small fireplace in the corner and a large oak table and four oak chairs in the center of the 16 by 16 foot room gave it a very rustic appearance.
The tea house has been vandalized in recent years and today only the stone shell remains.

We also visited Heavenly and took the gondola to the top, where there was still snow in late June, to get a different perspective of the Lake. Mark Zuckerberg and more elite gazillionaires live in this area. Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra, Cher, Liza Minelli, Alanis Morissette, Mike Love and James Hetfield are just a few of the musicians who also call Lake Tahoe home.
