Ode to Fathers
Father’s Day is one thing when you are a kid. Lame homemade gifts. A card. Some old spice or a multi tool.
Then you get married and have a kid. Now fathers day is about you and your father. You juggle to make everyone happy.
Then you lose your father. Father’s Day is now about you, your loss, but you may have an in law you also have to celebrate, so you trudge on.
Now all the fathers are gone. It’s only you. In a way it’s nice because you get to do what you want but your heart is heavy and overshadowed.
Now you lost your brother. You almost lost your husband who is the father to your children. You are surrounded by incredible loss and sorrow.
What do you do?
You honor the dads everywhere that are gone by making sure the father of your children get recognized for the things they but up with from their wives and kids. You make them breakfast. You make them coffee. You get everyone together and you make a memory! That way your kids can reflect back to this day when their father is gone.
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads living and passed.
