April is National Letter Wiring Month. My German pen pal Eileen, whom I met though The Wander Society, introduced me to a group of women who participate in a month long letter writing campaign every April. Since this was my first time joining the fun I opted for one on one letter writing rather than "madness". With one on one, you are paired with someone and are required to exchange at least 4 letters. Madness is where you write and respond to every single person in the group. Even though I only signed up for the one on one, I received a ton of mail from madness and other one on one players. I responded to every one and even sent out a few to others. I got a late start, and I did not know that it is expected to have a letter sent before the April 1st starting point so that there is a letter waiting for your partner and the very start. I made up for it by writing a letter and mailing it every day that first week. Having just lost my father and not returning home until the 1st I had a valid excuse. However, this card making, letter writing, postcard sending group has helped me tremendously through this very rough patch I am going through right now. I still can't talk about it, but having all the new avenues to create and send things to has been therapeutic.

Another Wander Society friend introduced me to the "Love Notes" postcard swap. You are matched up with a partner ( or partners ) and given writing prompts to encourage and engage with your fellow snail mail lover. This is another group I have made some wonderful friends in. It is little things like this that are getting me through each day. Little by little, all the small acts are having the biggest impact on my grieving process.
