With dia de los muertos, day of the dead, falling on a weekend, the festivities are rampant around town. The once obscure holiday that Shane and I relished in for years has become like everything else, commercialized. Still, it remains one of my favorite ways to celebrate the season.
One of the altars were made up of construction paper rings with the names and messages to loved ones on them. This is my favorite practice of this celebration. I really like the idea that I can pass a message along to someone on the other side while the veil is thin. I know belief in ghosts, spirits, even God is a heated and debatable subject but I can only go off on my own experiences. I believe in the paranormal. I have seen and felt things that just can't be explained and honestly, it makes me feel comforted that this time of year I can send some love out into the universe. Losing my dad was the hardest thing I ever had to go through.
Another cool thing new this year was the interactive print making.
The festival was much more crowded this year than last. I can only imagine it just getting bigger. We did not stay long because of the crowds but we did manage to enjoy a really great tamale for $2.
