Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin, Ireland held some of the most famous political and military leaders in Irish history. Leaders of the rebellions of 1798, 1803, 1848, 1867 and 1916 were detained here, such as Robert Emmet, Charles Stewart Parnell, the 1916 Rising leaders and Eamon de Valera.
 The jail gives you a dramatic and realistic insight into what is was like to have been confined here between 1796 when it opened and 1924 when it closed.

From the moment I stepped through the door I was greeted with an overwhelming somber feeling. I could feel the sadness and suffering radiate through the entire building. They say this place is one of the most haunted if not the most haunted places in Ireland. I fully believe it.

Yes, we were as tired as we looked. We were cramming a lot into our vacation and loving every minute of it. I can't take credit for any of it. Brigitte planned it all and did an amazing job. It was a nice change since I am the one who does all the vacation planning. I tried not to look too much up either because I wanted to be surprised and I also knew we were tagging along on someone else's trip so I did not want to change anything. I wish I could hire her for future endeavors.

I purchased a very heavy set of iron keys from the tiny gift shop and they are by far one of my favorite souvenirs ever!
