Lauri Stallings is a choreographer. She is taking over the Fowler Gallery, Kistner Atrium, and Kendall Rotunda at the Hudgens Center. What used to be an exhibition area for paintings and sculpture has become a gathering space and a place for movement. The GLO moving artists have moved in to the museum. A People Parade happens each day in the Fowler Gallery at 12:30pm, with artists and visitors holding hands and walking side by side in 2's and 3's. I stumbled upon the artists on my most recent visit. This was my first modern dance/performance artist experience. At first I felt awkward, then it felt relaxing. I was mesmerized by the movement and at times felt my hairs standing up and chills down my spine. I hope I can catch more of this ever changing exhibit before it is over. I am excited that her work will also be featured during FLUX, which is finally back after a long hiatus, probably because the new Mercedes Benz stadium construction has destroyed the integrity of the Castleberry Hill art district. FLUX will be the last weekend in September at Grant Park. If you have never been, do yourself a favor and go. It is a fully immersible art installation that transforms open urban spaces into incredible visual and auditory encampments.
