Sometimes My Worlds Collide
It doesn't happen often enough but when it does it makes for the best days at work!
The last three weeks have been spent on various job sites photographing what we do at Shumate Mechanical. We are re-working our commercial company website and I was tasked with taking lots and lots of photographs. This week was office staff picture day. I got to sit in on meetings, visit everyone's office space and capture patterns and textures in our massive warehouse. These last few months I have been able to do much commercial photographic work and have officially become the official company photographer. I have been doing it unofficially for years. I wish it was completely full time work but I will take it as it comes. It is a nice change of pace to switch gears from office duties to more creative work. My company is huge and I can't believe after 16 years I am still able to meet new folks that have been here as long as I have on the regular. Photography allows me access to different fields of our company and though it may not be fascinating to most people, learning new things and meeting new people is my jam.
Visiting the new Mercedes-Benz HQ in Atlanta was the highlight of my job site adventures. This building is state of the art in every way. It is the Mercedes-Benz of architecture, which is the only way to describe it. I wish every building had roof access like this one. No scary ladders but the roof was slick and I slipped more than once. My 30 year old Docs come in handy for these days.
Crane sets are my favorite. They bring out the 5 year old Tom Boy trapped inside of me.
No matter how many times I have done it, climbing the ladder on the side of the building to the roof FREAKS ME OUT. My hands are sweaty just thinking about it. The worst part is getting on and off. Some roofs are better than others.
For the most part these guys make work feel less like work. We all work very hard but we have an excellent team. These fools make me laugh when work can be overwhelming. If I was not surrounded by intelligent positive individuals all day I would never have lasted here this long.
Some of the outtakes had me crying with laughter. I have one job left to go to and then the fun is over for a while but man it was great while it lasted. I hope you enjoyed a small look into the wonderful world of HVAC.
