At the very top of the list of favorite southern cemetery is the Gateway Walk in Charleston. Which is actually several cemeteries connected by the most beautiful pathway I have ever seen. It was like being in a fairy tale.

It has it all! Beautiful gardens...check, Cobblestone walkways...check, Spanish moss...check, Old headstones and history...check check check!

Established in 1930 and maintained by the Garden Club of Charleston, this path passes through several historic walkways and cemeteries in downtown Charleston. It begins near the west cemetery of Saint Philip's Episcopal Church. The path continues into the graveyard of the Circular Church, and then across Meeting Street to the path on the north side of the Gibbes Museum, and into its sculpture courtyard. Continuing past the Charleston Library Society, across King Street, it goes into the yard of the Unitarian Church. Finally, it passes through the cemetery of Saint John's Lutheran Church. This is a great way to see some of Charleston's old churches, graveyards, and museums. As the name implies, there are indeed quite a few gateways along the way.

It is not the easiest place to find but so worth the effort!

Charleston, SC is a must visit if you have never been. I have been quite a few times now and every single time it is a completely different experience. I have never have one bad moment in all the times of have come here. Maybe it is why I keep coming back. We camped, we have run zombie 5k's here, we have slept on battleships, we have drank oyster shooters with friends and laughed til we cried. We have drank wine and mint tea vodka, ate incredible seafood and explored beautiful gardens all around the town. We have even brought Zero here to enjoy some of the plantations and beaches. I can't wait to go back again.
