We stayed at the eco-hotel located inside the preserve at Valle Escondido. They have really updated their website since I have visited. Check it out. If all of that information was available before I visited, I probably would have booked extra time there. I would stay there 100% again. Shane was not as impressed as I was. The bed was a little too small and hard for him. I think I slept the best in this very simple, primitive room than anywhere else we stayed. Maybe it was the climate. Maybe it was we were so exhausted. For $50 cash per night you can't beat it. The draw backs, there is not a safe in the room and the walls are very thin. There is a guard in the parking lot 24/7 and I felt pretty good about leaving our stuff, not that I had much choice.

These are the practices and principles that have drawn me to this country and to this place. This entire country is filled with everything I love and believe in. This place in particular cleansed my soul.

I love that we had a real key.

On clear mornings you can see all the way to the ocean from here. No where else will you find this view in Monteverde! Then when the clouds roll through you will be treated to the most beautiful rainbows your eyes will ever see. I have only ever seen one near as bright in Hawaii.

  The food was not the greatest food we had of the 3 hotels we stayed in. I will say the wine was delicious. We also went into town for our first meal out. We dined at the Restaurante Tree House & Cafe which by far was hands down the best food, atmosphere and local craft beer anywhere in the country that we came across! The restaurant is built into and around a live tree. We dined on the second floor under the branches beside a heater, even with a little sprinkling from the clouds coming in on us. It was amazing! I took video (no pictures) and it was all over my instagram story if you were following along. We also did our first grocery shopping in a foreign country in Monteverde. This was also where we drove around on the worst roads in the country at night. We pretty much felt completely at home here. If you ever decide to visit this amazing country it can be daunting to try to figure out what regions to visit and where to go. Monteverde is a little (a lot) out of the way but is absolutely worth it. We did a lot of hiking and wandering around and I think I bought all my gifts from here also. Not to mention the ziplining! Holy Hell. I will post more about the actually hiking in the cloud forest (picture heavy). Just go here and trust me. I almost skipped it because of time and location but Nick insisted we come. Now I just want to go back and spend a dedicated week here. So lush and green! It is chilly though. Not cold but let me tell you, those convertible pants from REI were a God send here. Pack a rain jacket and those pants, warm socks and a long sleeve t-shirt for this area. There is always a breeze and it is misting at some point everyday. The entire forest is in the clouds everyday. 100% humidity. Not usually my jam but it is not a hot humidity. It is a unique environment that you truly have to experience in person.
