There is an annual Elisha Winn fair the first weekend of every October. The fair is sponsored by the Gwinnett Historical Society as a fund raiser to keep the house in good shape. Built in 1812, the house is the oldest surviving building in Gwinnett and probably the oldest building in metro Atlanta and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Our pack will be selling popcorn there for the fund raiser to promote our cubs and boys scouts to pay their own way through scouting. The sales help pay their dues, trips and banquets each year. As scouts we also need to give back to the community and have volunteered to clean up the property for the up coming festival.

It was 90+ degrees. A bees nest was stirred up and someone got stung. An ants nest was stirred up and someone got covered and bitten. We had someone get sick over the heat. We literally put blood, sweat and tears into this service project. The boys had more fun collecting rocks and sticks and fighting over dumping the wheel barrow. What is is with boys wanting to bring sticks home all the time?

I was hoping for them to come away feeling great about doing for something for their community but after this day I don't think anyone felt very "great" ha!
