I heard about the Georgia Conservancy's trip to snorkel in a river in northwest Georgia. I am not usually anywhere near this area but just so happened to be not too far away so we decided to make a detour and a half day excursion out of it. It is not too often you get to snorkel in the mountains right?

It is not an easy place to find if you don't no where to go. You will be on a dirt road for what seems like forever, about 45 minutes. We followed the directions found here and they were flawless.

We spotted the small parking area and the dirt path pretty easily.

The water is really clear and cold but not cold enough in the summer to be uncomfortable. I had read that you needed a wet suit but we actually found it to be quite refreshing and none was needed. We did see a lot of fish and a crayfish (which snapped at my ankle). I would not call it epic but it was pretty cool.

The most interesting fish were found by the big rocks.

 After driving down these dirt roads for close to 2 hours my car was filthy!

We had to stop and wash the car off. The entire thing looked like these tires. I could not see out the windows!

Bottom line... I am glad we checked it out. I would not make it a destination but maybe part of another trip if you are in the area. There is a ton of camping nearby. With it being summer if was hot and very buggy and since we are in a drought it was ridiculously dusty. Bring bug spray, extra shoes and possibly paper towels and windex!
