Anniversary Adventures Part 4travel Ask anyone who knows me and they will probably say I am audacious. That was a cute quality my husband was first attracted to, now, not so much. I may have become more adventuresome as I get older but I have always felt challenging myself in all things makes me a better person, at least in my own mind it does. I am forever pushing Shane out of his comfort zone (this goes for the kids too). In doing this we have discovered so many more things we enjoy together. Also things we don't but we have the collective mindset that we will try just about anything once.
Our getaway package included a choice of a high ropes course or to go horseback riding. Shane wasn't having any of that horseback riding.
I think he was expecting something like the zipline we did a few years back. I did not know what to expect but I had done the ropes course at Stone Mountain with the kids at separate times. My daughter was 12 at the time and she loved it. I took my 10 year old this past spring break and he freaked out. He did not get past the first level and it took much effort for that to happen whereas my little she-daredevil did all 3 levels and the top one twice. A girl after my own heart!
This ladder was really hard to climb. The rungs are very wide so you can't grip your hands around them and the ropes are almost more than my arms length apart so I could not grip them together to climb up. I almost did not make it to the top level. I was stuck in the middle for a while trying to figure out what to do. My husband gave me a hand. I was sweating bullets.
I still have scrapes on my elbows from this rope ladder. I really felt how little upper body strength I possess. Luckily I was tethered to a spotter on the ground who helped hoist me up. It is much harder than it looks.
Once up on the platforms going across was the easy part (for me) it was the opposite for Shane. He hates heights. I was super proud of him for doing this and he still loved me afterwards.
This part above was super sketchy. Neither one of us made it more than halfway through this side of the course. Shane made it further than me. There was too much slack in the rope on the mid section that you had to hang on to. I would have basically had to do a push up sideways across the tightrope. My palms were sweaty and I just could not get out of my own head. I did not have the upper body strength to do it and if I had of slipped off I don't think I could have found my way back on without having to be hoisted down and start all over again. I did not feel too bad because the group of 5 20-something guys said it was much harder than the other side and one of them almost passed out on the other side and never did any of it. Our hearts wee beating out of our chest a good hour after we were done. This was most definitely the most harrowing thing I have done thus far. This was NO Stone Mountain!
We went into the border town to find food and a drink to calm our nerves. What we found was this.
Cheers to 12 years of marriage! SaveComments
