Thanks to my friend Lori, who introduced me to Roadside America and Atlas Obscura I got to knock 2 museums off the 2016 goals list. 4 more to go. Now every time I go anywhere I check these sites for fun quick side trips when ever I am traveling.

On my way to visit my niece mom and I decided to take the back roads there. When I drive by myself or just the kids, this is the way I go to South Carolina. It is much more scenic and avoids 85, 285, 75 and 16...which if you are from Atlanta, you know there is always traffic and construction somewhere on those roads. On Roadside America I found "Hitler's Phone" as a roadside attraction. Upon further investigation I found it is located on an Army base. The website made it sound easy enough to get to. WAZE, the GPS, took me to a side gate and the MP was a little miffed when I explained I was there to go to the museum on base. He didn't even know there was a museum on base. So assuring him I am not a terrorist but a tourist and Muggs the fierce and scary dachshund in the back seat and I were directed to the main gate 3 miles down the road where I could get a pass. This required a checkpoint, then a pull over to go into and office, take a number and wait to get a pass (one for every person in the car). You also have to drive VERY SLOW on base.

So much for a quick side trip.

I remember when the wall came down and it was a big deal. My maternal grandparents were from Germany and my mom is the first generation American on that side of the family.

I did not bring my DSLR into the museum. I know federal buildings are funny about camera equipment and taking pictures and I did not want to draw any more attention than needed so these are all iPhone shots.

If an inanimate could be haunted or cursed it would be this phone. To think of the evil plans and commands that were given on this end of the receiver just left me with chills.
