The Suwanee Greenway

February 20, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

This is where I run when I want to treat myself. So many options!

There are 5 access points. For me the closest from work is Suwanee Creek Park. There is a disc golf course here, some soft trails, a nice hilly loop in the park that can be added but mostly I start right about where this sign is and head to the greenway.

I park, if I can, right in front of hole 1. Then head around this bend to the back side of the park where the greenway trailhead is.

Yes these are iPhone pics.

You can see more of the disc golf course through the woods.

This is my favorite part of the trail from Suwanee Creek Park to McGinnis Ferry (where another access point and small parking lot are) this is about a mile.

See the really cool bat house? It has a batman sign on it. I love bats!

This is a pretty spot just before McGinnis Ferry.

After you cross under McGinnis Ferry rd you run through this boardwalk and this is where the wetlands become abundant.

It is slightly hilly from MF to the part where the trail intersects with a neighborhood (1.5 miles now)

Now you are flat again and pretty until you get to Martins Farm (another access point and small parking area) just under 2 miles in.

You will cross the street at Martins Farm and now your heading toward Suwanee Town Center Park.

This is the area that floods often and can be slick.

This is another favorite part. It is flat and pretty!

You can run up the bridge to go through the neighborhood that connects to Suwanee Town Center (Big Peach running store is there) or keep going past and under Lawrenceville-Suwanee Rd. and go to the next bridge to George Pierce Park (the end)

You are about 2.50 miles now from the car.

You will come to another bridge that will dump you at a split from paved to soft.

Eventually this trail will connect to the Ivy Creek Greenway right here and that will make running and biking long distances awesome!

But for now I have to run them separate. Now turn around and go back and you have run about 6 miles give or take. I really like running in George Pierce. Sometimes I will park at Martins Farm and run from there to here when I get out the door early enough. That parking lot fills quickly on nice days. I played softball for a few years at this park and the end of the trail is at the field we played on. So many memories! We were the bad news bears of company softball. We had a reputation among the refs. I am sure you will be happy to know that my "where I run posts" are almost done. Only a couple of more spots to write about. Soon it will be spring and I will share my favorite spots to paddle.
