World's Largest Occupied Bat House
On the grounds of the University Of Florida you will find the world's largest occupied bat house containing over 400,000 bats. The most common species living here is the Brazilian free-tailed bat, Tadarida brasiliensis. The Southeastern bat, Myotis austroriparius, and Evening bat, Nycticeius humeralis, also live here.
The houses are surrounded by beautiful gardens.
We could hear the bats inside the house although we arrived at the wrong time of year and the wrong time of day to view the emergence. I will plan my next trip through this area to be able to see the bats converge overhead.
The grounds around the houses are gorgeous.
