Brushfire Fairytales

Yesterday I went for my lunchtime run. I thought someone was burning something outside of our warehouse. I figured the smell would go away the further I got from the shop. I soon figured out that this was not normal. I could not get away from the campfire smoke or smell. A mile in I had to turn around and come back. By the time I got inside I could barely breathe and my eyes were burning for another 2 hours. Shortly after I got back I learned that a strong wind blowing in from the north was carrying the wildfire smoke from neighboring states including a 6400 acre brushfire near the Tennessee border and covering the entire metro Atlanta area. Today it was ten times worse. The smoke hovers in the air like a thick fog. My hair smells like I have been camping. We haven't had rain in at least 2 months. The dry leaves blowing off the trees are spreading fires faster than they can get them contained.

I took a walk down to the river today to observe what I could of the scenery. Flip flops year round here in the South...don't judge me!

Smoke on the water

I swear there is not a cloud in the sky... this is all smoke!

I was literally outside for 15 minutes and my eyes are still burning and it's been over an hour. There is no rain in the forecast for a week and a half and that probably won't happen. Things are getting pretty desperate around here. I have not had a chance to go to the lake. I think I might need to take the kayak out and see how low it is.
