Running is free therapy
Well almost free...those shoes are quite pricey
as you can see by my lack of muscle tone I have been seriously slacking on my running
I was running and training for races so much that I just got burned out
I also discovered kayaking and that became my new obsession
Well I am tired of feeling mentally exhausted and unhappy physically as well
I really stinks when you stop running because you lose all that momentum and stamina
I recently won a fitbit at work and it is motivating me to get back into shape
I would say the old cliche, New Years Resolution, but really it's not
I love running, just not training. The thing is though if I am not signed up for a race I slack off
I guess I need to pick a half and start all over again so I can get back up to speed
In the mean time I thought I would share some posts on my favorite local running spots
This one is my all time favorite
This is the Ivy Creek Nature Preserve
It is located behind the Mall of GA and runs to the Gwinnett Heritage Center
Eventually it will go all the way from Bogan Park to the Suwanee Greenway
The unpaved portion the trail system is my favorite part. There are many bridges, boardwalks and overlooks running beside Ivy Creek
I haven't been here since I took my Cub Scout den on a short hike back in October
Since then they added a few new things
Like this seating area
and this step down to the creek
They have also started extending the trails and adding benches
It was cool to find some new places to run
There is hardly ever anyone on the trails and I always see lots of wildlife
This is only the unpaved, Nature Preserve part of the trail system
I will do another post on the paved section and showcase some of its highlights as well
All of these were shot with an iphone 6 plus
“nature is not always tricked in holiday attire, but the same scene which yesterday breathed perfume and glittered as for the frolic of the nymphs, is overspread with melancholy today. Nature always wears the colors of the spirit. To a man laboring under calamity, the heat of his own fire hath sadness in it.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson
