Laurel Ridge Trail
This trail is great for trail running or hiking. It is not excessively hilly and mostly shaded. However I do not recommend taking a 12 year old along for the hike after he has just had a boxing work out when it is 98F outside unless you are willing to let your ears get a work out as well. No son, there is not a short cut!
If we could stop and throw rocks into the lake every 1000 feet or so it would have went with less complaining. Boys and rocks.
The trail has lots of boulders, makeshift steps and creek crossings.
The trail is gorgeous and full of all kinds of topography. Lake, ponds, creeks, boardwalks, Chattahoochee river views, wildflowers and wildlife. You do have to cross the busy Buford Dam Road a couple of times near the dam. Other than that there really is only 2 parks that you encounter many people, really only one that passes a beach so that was crowded.
His new thing. Thumbs up in all pictures.
The total distance is about 5 miles round trip. Starting off at Lower Overlook Park is the best option. It is not a bike or dog friendly trail. I would definitely do this one again, but on a less hot afternoon and probably solo.
