I finally got to go kayaking with the talented tattoo artist Darrin White and his apprentice and nephew Kodi White. I have been trying to make this happen for a year! The rain has Lake Lanier, and any lake in the area, past full pool. This opens up a million channels for us kayakers but also forces us off the rivers due to dangerous levels and currents. We got to explore this cool drainage tunnel that is normally not accessible.
This has to be the coolest thing we have done yet!
I have been wanting to do the Etowah River tunnel for a while. That one is 1/4 mile long, pitch black and had 2 sets of class II rapids inside of it. Little did I know my daughter and her adventure buddies were doing just that while me and my friends were paddling. Unfortunately they were not ready for what hit them and for good reason, the rain elevated the class of rapid to III and they did not have the correct boats for their run. Needless to say there was some flipping and loss of shoes, paddles and boats on their part. This tunnel however was nice and calm and we could at least see somewhat inside of it.
What a fantastic kick off to kayak season!
