In Waycross, Georgia there is a sad tale to be told. Way back in 1980, a tree fell in a forest. Actually a large tree was cut down in 4 sections and loaded onto a truck. The driver had re-checked the load of his truck and discovered something strange inside one of the logs.
The mummified hound dog is now on display at Southern Forest World. A small museum dedicated to the forest industry. The town of Waycross submitted and voted to name the dog. "Stuckie" won by a vote of 3. The now infamous dog lies forever on display in his log behind glass on both ends but the nice people who work in the museum are happy to open the glass for pictures of their famous resident mummy.
The back end of Stuckie is not as clear and easily photographed. I believe the brown paper bag is used as a moisture packet to keep him "fresh".
Stuckie is the big draw, but the dioramas are pretty cool. There is also a playground out back that has some fun elements to it.
For $5 it is worth a stop for Stuckie. Definitely not a destination, but good for a detour.
