Ski the Wolf

The entire family tagged along for the annual Boy Scouts ski trip. We drove up to the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina Friday night to meet up with the troop. We were all staying in the lodge, together in one room. It is basically camping inside military style. Not everyone's cup of tea. My daughter and I made up 2 of the 6 females that took part of the trip. Still, despite the snoring, it wasn't that bad.

The boys had never skied before. I had not done it since before I met Shane. My daughter however has been quite a bit. We all took part in the ski school since it was included anyway and our son was required to attend. This was the first time I ever skied without poles. Not sure I would do that again. It was nice to not have to keep up with them but it made it more difficult to maneuver in flatter areas and it would have been nice to have to just for getting up when falling down. I was surprised I did not fall very much at all despite how long it had been. I knew my husband would pick it up fast. He is naturally pretty good at most things. He would have picked it up faster had we not have had a super frustrated 12 year old making us miserable and knocking him down most of the morning. By lunch, both had managed to master the bunny hill and joined my daughter and I on the lift. That is when the fun began!

Just about every snowboarder we saw spent more time on their butt than on the board. Every collision was caused by them. It is the main reason I have no desire to do it. The last time I tried it, I was miserable. My daughter loves it but she skied with us so we would all be the same. I am so grateful I have these pictures from this trip! I captured both Shane and Brody's first time skiing, first rides on a lift and first time down a mountain. I love that my kids rode together and my daughter held my sons hand as he skied off the lift toward the big hill for the first time. My heart exploded in my chest! I am not going to lie. It was rough in the beginning and frustrating for my son but I am so happy they kept going and after dinner he earned his Skiing Merit Badge!

So far we are having an epic winter!
