I attended my first ever reptile convention. It was my sons birthday weekend and he had a friend spend the night. I thought this sounded pretty fun for 2 almost teen boys. The reality was it was way more fun for Lori and I. We met 2 very interesting people. The first was the guy who had all the tarantulas and scorpions. We must have talked to him for 45 minutes. Actually we talked for so long that we both ended up holding both a tarantula and a huge scorpion. Something I never thought I would do! Of course after seeing his mom do it, my son and his friend held the tarantula. Dare I say that I actually thought it was cute? I sent a picture to my husband and his only response was "no".
The second person we met did not work at the con. We were looking at all the cool frogs and he chatted us up. This guy was the most knowledgeable person I have ever met when it comes to reptiles, but especially frogs. Lori and I both left the conversation thinking we wanted one and were grateful he wasn't a salesman because we probably would have come home with a frog for each of us.
There were tons of beautiful snakes, iguanas, turtles, you name it. We even got to pet a hedgehog. I am not a snake fan. Mostly because I am such a huge rodent fan. I have to respect these animals though and luckily there were no poisonous snakes to be had. After watching 72 most dangerous animals and learning all about the Fer De Lance, I have a whole new snake fear.
2018 is off to a pretty adventurous start.
