We have become very attached to one another.
Wearing a long sleeve hoodie is a requirement if you are going to be on squirrel duty. His claws are very sharp and he can jump very high, fast and far. I am not sure why our head make such fantastic spring boards for him.
My son is just coming to the realization that he is not coming in the house much longer. We have already moved his cage to the garage. My husband just completed his pre-release cage. He spent yesterday afternoon inside of it in the backyard under the tree with the nesting box that will be his permanent shelter eventually. We did not leave him in the cage outside overnight because of the incoming storms. Eventually he will have to spend the night in the rain but he does not like storms and there is no way we are putting him outside for the first time during a storm. It will still be a few weeks before he will be completely free, if he actually decides to be free...we will keep feeding him and providing him shelter to use. I know the day will come when he will stop coming to us and that day is going to break all of our hearts. Until then I will let him wrestle with my hands and steal my snacks and bury peanuts in my couch cushions and clothes.
Just beautiful Mary. What a great experience for all of you.
