Rocking the Quarry

My co-worker and friend Angie posted a link on my facebook page 2 weeks ago for a race.

I thought she was kidding.

She wasn't.

The race was almost 4 miles inside the Vulcan Materials Rock Quarry. We would have to run to the bottom of the quarry and back up to the top. Going down would be easy but going back up? Not so much. I have not been adhering to a consistent running schedule, and I sure as Hell did not have the hill work under my belt. The thought of the pictures I would get and a chance to knock off one of my 2017 Goals had me considering it. Angie sent me a $5.00 off coupon and assured me this was not for time but for fun so I bit the bullet.

The morning of the race was chilly. There were more people than I expected and they all looked fit AF.

The quarry was such a cool place to run and explore.

The view from the bottom was worth the effort.

This goes down in my top 5 most fun races.

My time while not the best was not as terrible as I thought it would be. I stopped to take pictures and ran/walked the hills going back up, kept a comfortable pace and talked most of the way up and down.
