The final leg of our Costa Rica trip was to hit the beach. So many beach options but we chose Samara because that is where of friend of mine is from and I just wanted a little laid back chill time. I did not have high hopes for a lot of fun in the sun because it was the rainy season. We really lucked out. We had incredible weather for most of the trip and managed to get plenty of beach time and the water was perfect!
The first thing we saw when we pulled into our hotel (besides a ton of construction) was the biggest iguana I have ever laid eyes on. After we parked we passed several more scurrying about. I had no idea they climbed trees. They call them tree rats.
After checking in and dropping our bags in our rooms we ran to the beach and facetimed the kids.
What blew me away the most was this pink sunset and the wild horses that came out ever night just before the sun went down. That was a bonus that came as a complete surprise.
We stayed at the Villas Playa Samara. It was an all-inclusive. It was small but the entertainment was great, the bartenders were outstanding. We made friends at the swim up pool bar and laughed and generally had a memorable time here. The food at the main restaurant was incredible, sadly we were only able to eat there once. The buffet food was typical Costa Rican (which I can never tire of) and the breakfast had made to order omelets. We are pretty easy to please so we loved it.
The gardens were beautiful, the room was nice, except the last day when the power went out but we were leaving and had already showered and packed up so it wasn't an issue. The grounds were teaming with wildlife.
Shane was obsessed with the squirrels.
I still want this headboard!
The best part of the hotel was just outside the front gate. Monkeys were everywhere in the trees!
Before we got to Samara I had only heard monkeys and caught a glimpse of one for a fleeting moment in La Fortuna. I was worried I was going to come away from this trip and not have seen any. This made my day!
