A drive down Buford Highway is like traveling through other countries. If you want authentic food of any kind, this is where you go. When I read about a Day of the Dead festival being held in the Northeast Plaza, I knew it was going to be as real as it gets.
There was a public altar contest, face painting, sugar skull decorating, book mark coloring, some delicious Honduran food and a parade (that we missed due to rain)
When DotD falls on a weekend we usually throw a party. I make an altar and I ask guests to bring photos and offerings. We write notes to love ones who have passed and toss them in the fire to send them up. It is one of my family traditions unique to us that I cherish.
